Footpaths

There is a good network of accessible footpaths around the parish including the 1066 trail.

To help maintain local paths the Westfield Footpath Volunteers group started in May 2008 as part of the Westfield Parish Action Plan.

There are currently about 20 volunteers which means that they can always raise a team for a working party.

To date the team has installed 3 new stiles and a kissing gate, repaired a footbridge, and cleared vegetation along several stretches of footpaths.

Plans for the future include volunteers regularly surveying all footpaths within the parish and reporting on the condition of all surfaces and structures. It is also planned to involve the Westfield Scout Group in this survey to grid reference the stiles, signs, etc.

These volunteers also intend to show  footpaths on the Westfield Village website, and to produce maps of walks in the village.

East Sussex County Council has developed a series of high quality "Paths to prosperity" circular walks across the county. Copies of their leaflets are free. You can obtain them by telephoning 01273 481654, or by e-mailing rightsofway@eastsussex.gov.uk or downloading them from their website www.eastsussex.gov.uk
